Anonymous asked: Antwoord rape-y bullshit was all lifted directly from a 1992 Mike Tyson rant.
just found this in my ask box. It’s about a Die Antwoord thing I posted ages ago.
Yeah, I actually caught the Mike Tyson quotes. (not sure I’m proud of that) (and not the worst thing Mike Tyson has ever said. disturbing, I know.)
I wish Ninja had talked about DJ Hi-tek’s choice there. Was there an artistic goal, some kind of commentary, or was this just macho rape-y bullshit?
There were a lot of things I like about it IF it was understood as an offer, not a threat, because then “I’ll fuck you in the ass,” and “I’ll eat your asshole” have quite a different meaning.
Something should be said about aggressiveness and homosexuality or about the monstrous posturing, but I think most of the potential merit of this performance gets lost in the rape-y connotation.
Something should also be said about how rape-y-ness can be more easily attributed to a monstrous subject, (like the classic archytypes of rapists in the public imagination: gay man, black man, trans woman), when it is undeserving. Um.. this video is probably not an example of that.
